Delivery giant Deliveroo has today announced its plans to remove all crust options from the app, due to overwhelming anti-crust feedback from customers. The crust cull will begin on the Deliveroo app starting April 1stand will take effect in all their markets globally.
The move comes amid growing concern from Deliveroo around a growing group of customers who have launched a petition to have the plain edges of the pizza banned. The food company reports that “No crusts” has become the most frequent menu personalisation request from customers placing pizza orders across all of its 14 markets.
This weekend, the company also experienced an outage due to an overwhelming volume of “Crustomer complaints” with London, Paris and Sydney experiences the highest volumes anti-crust sentiment.
Psychologists believe that this newfound resentment towards pizza crust may be one of the long-term side effects from parents’ removing the crusts on their children’s sandwiches.
Speaking about the huge announcement of pizza crust ban from Deliveroo, UAE GM, Anis Harb said: “It’s still unclear to us exactly why consumer opinion has dropped so dramatically, despite partners trying to disguise the taste of the plain dough with a selection of delicious dips. The decision to ban crusts on our platform has not been taken lightly, but after receiving millions of complaints from customers receiving crusts on their pizzas we see no other option but to remove them altogether.”
PizzaExpress, one of Dubai’s favorite pizza joints and a Deliveroo partner shared their thoughts on the ban where Digital Marketing Manager Samuel Charles said, “At PizzaExpress we always try to make sure the passata sauce and ingredients cover all of the pizza, so with every bite you are able to taste all the flavours. Going crust less will ensure customers get a better experience while eating pizza. Personally, this makes perfect sense, as no one likes just eating dough on its own.”
The crust cull will begin on the Deliveroo on April 1st (April Fool’s Day).
