Hilton’s Green Ramadan initiative, launched in partnership with Winnow and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) under the Recipe of Change campaign, is transforming the way hotels approach food sustainability during the holy month. With UNEP reporting a 25-50% spike in food waste during religious and social festivities, Hilton has introduced innovative strategies to minimise waste, promote local sourcing, and champion sustainable gastronomy. Rooted in the brand’s Travel with Purpose 2030 goals, the initiative integrates AI-powered tracking by Winnow to monitor food waste, aligning Hilton’s efforts to a net-zero future with meaningful action.

Since its launch in 2023 across three Middle Eastern hotels, Green Ramadan has made a significant impact, reducing food waste by an impressive 61% in just 30 days. In 2024, the programme expanded to 32 hotels across seven countries in EMEA & APAC, achieving a further 21% reduction against the previous year’s baseline. Now, Hilton is scaling the initiative even further, bringing sustainable iftar experiences to more properties, including DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island.
