Abu Dhabi, 27 February 2024: The Abu Dhabi Festival welcomed esteemed tenor Lawrence Brownlee for a captivating performance at The Red Theater, The Arts Center NYU Abu Dhabi on February 25th, 2024. Brownlee, renowned internationally for his extraordinary talent and activism in the music industry, made his debut appearance at the festival to great acclaim. In addition to this spectacular performance, Lawrence Brownlee conducted musical master classes masterclasses with Emirati students, which were brought to audiences by Mubadala.
Described by the Chicago Tribune as ‘an international opera star,’ Brownlee mesmerized the audience with his impeccable vocal prowess and dynamic stage presence. Accompanied by the internationally acclaimed pianist Fabio Centanni, Brownlee presented a diverse repertoire ranging from Rossini’s virtuosic coloratura arias to the emotional depths of Verdi’s compositions, showcasing the breadth and depth of his artistry.
Her Excellency Huda Alkhamis Kanoo, Founder of Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) and Founder and Artistic Director of Abu Dhabi Festival highlighted the importance of collaborative productions and exclusive commissions by the Festival in partnership with major global cultural institutions and international festivals. This contributes significantly to bolstering Abu Dhabi’s stature as a hub of music and a distinctive cultural destination within UNESCO’s network of Creative Cities. In her statement, she emphasised, “The Festival is proud to present internationally acclaimed opera star tenor Lawrence Brownlee, accompanied by the much-admired pianist Fabio Centanni, making their debut in the Arab world. Together, they performed masterpieces by composers including Mozart, Verdi, Rossini and Donizetti.”
